Gen Lee Ju-Jitsu: What is it?
Gen Lee Ju-Jitsu is an American style of Ju-Jitsu that was founded in 1965 by
Nick DiNapoli.
Gen Lee combines the arts of Karate, Judo, Aikido, and Savate. The purpose of which is to give the person a greater variety of technique to choose from in a self defense situation.
Hard and soft arts in combination is a proven approach to self defense.
Judo and Aikido are "soft" arts, however, they approach "softness" in different ways.
In Judo, we add to the force to gain an advantage over the opponent
In Aikido, we simply redirect the force to gain an advantage over the opponent.
Karate and Savate are "hard arts" both stress striking over locking or throwing.
Often times striking is necessary to distract an opponent, so the student can continue to a lock or throw and conclude the situation efficiently and safely.
From all of these arts we aquire balance, timing, coordination, power, strength, confidence and stability.
Gen Lee’s approach to Self Defense Instruction
Contained within the basics are techniques which the student develops into an individual style of self defense, of which the primary focus is to understand and apply breaking of balance, striking, throwing and pinning and/or controlling.
Once a student learns these basics. They will be able to use these techniques from the different arts, in combination, for a wide variety of situations. This approach allows for the seamless application of techniques suited to one's own needs, circumstances and abilities.
The "understanding" of the art is achieved continuously, which affords the student better able to defend themselves and gives the student the ability to adapt to various and changing situations. This ability is crucial, since the circumstances that one may have to use the art, is potentially, a life threatening one.
